Only when the tanks are at the border …

The Reporter magazine interviewed me about the attitudes of the Czech public to defense and preparation for it. It is not a very cheerful read. After the Russian invasion of Ukraine, opinions have partially changed, but society as a whole is still not ready to deal with current security threats. We have a prevailing feeling that we will not be able to pull it out, we cannot save anything in the case of World War III anyway, and let someone else take care of it, probably NATO. Historically, there were always many people in the Czech society who were ready to defend the state with weapons, but now it seems that the public “wakes up” only when the tanks are at the border.
